2. Cure 4 George - Duchenne UK

Cure4George proudly supports Duchenne UK, a charity with one clear aim: to end Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK, dedicated to finding effective treatments and putting an end to the devastating impact of this condition. They are pushing boundaries further and faster than ever before, because this generation of people living with DMD simply can’t wait.

Our club continues to stand with Cure4George in support of George, a local Billericay lad who has battled DMD since being diagnosed at the age of 8.

A massive rugby fan, George and his parents, Kerry and John Shippey, have been frequent visitors to the club. At our 2022 Beefest, George presented us with a special Duchenne UK rugby shirt, signed by none other than Owen Farrell.

If you’ve visited the clubhouse, you’ve likely spotted this cherished piece of memorabilia proudly displayed above the bar.

Owen Farrell, now playing for Racing 92, is a long-standing Patron of Duchenne UK and an advocate for their incredible work.

George is an amazing young man and in October 2024 he received a ‘Well Child’ Inspirational Young Person award where he got to meet KSI and received his award from Prince Harry.

BRFC fundraising is spearheaded by Barry Elsdon at the club and he has set up a Just Giving page which has already raised over £7000. Barry always runs the Cure4George / Duchenne UK stall every year at Beefest and every penny raised go directly to the BRFC Just Giving page.

We are proud to support George and the remarkable efforts of Cure4George and Duchenne UK.
