The club has a new Honorary President ahead of the 2024/25 season, Chris Goldsmith.
Here are a few word from Chris ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 season.
{/i}"To all Billericay Rugby Football Club (BRFC) Members, Parents, Volunteers, Supporters and past Members...
It is with great pride that I have accepted the nomination for the new Honorary President position at Billericay Rugby Club. As an ambassadorial role, it is different to the previous Club President role which was more hands on and active.
This is lucky as very few could dream of contributing as much as Scott Fisher has and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him from the bottom of my heart for all that he has done for our rugby club.
I joined BRFC in 1999 (25 years ago which makes a nice anniversary) after watching my younger brother Andy and friends play for Billericay’s second ever youth team and realising that rugby was also the sport for me. The camaraderie, sportsmanship, personal discipline and mutual respect are not matched by any other sport and these qualities are the heartbeat of BRFC.
I have actively supported and watched with pride as we have built a youth section which has been complimented as one of the best in the county for both building core rugby skills and creating well rounded young people alongside their respectful parents and guardians.
I’ve enjoyed highs and lows on the pitch - playing whilst two adult teams ran out at Twickenham (almost making the squad for the second…) and pulling on a shirt to valiantly lose against superior opposition when we were promoted.
I am equally proud of both and they create a bond that will stay with us forever. This is what I believe sets BRFC apart; we learn to truly love our teammates through the good and the tougher times - we are a family and the photo I’ve chosen to accompany this note is the Goldsmith family in the bar at Willowbrook enjoying a night with our BRFC family.
So… looking forward. All of our teams are competing hard in their respective divisions and we have a new committee who have both the ideas and the energy to help us progress. I am excited to see everyone enjoying themselves and will do my best to support and represent you.
A club is only as good as those who make it so and therefore, I urge anyone who can to please volunteer and contribute.
Let’s keep making our club so special and I wish everyone a very happy new season."[/i]
All the best
Chris Goldsmith
Honorary President
